Village men proudly display their rare catch, "La Boa"-- (although technically it is a Python). While on a hunting expedition far from the village, they stumbled upon it and quickly cut off its head with a machete. The serpent had just eaten the night before and had a full bush rat in its stomach. The snake was divided up and I was given a large portion in exchange for taking the photograph. It had a large backbone and ribcage, and the meat needed to boil for a long time because it was tough. With seasonings  Mom had sent, I made "Sweet & Sour Boa." The taste was similar to a combination of fish and chicken. Many local women refused to eat snake, believing that it would bring evil spirits into their bodies. Photo by Christine Strater.
