Winter, 1995. A lioness lounges on a tree felled by elephants. I had spent several hours one morning watching a lion pride hunt Cape buffalo. Unsuccessful in their attempts; the sun now high in the sky; and the temperature rapidly rising, the group abandoned their efforts and retired to the shade.
