Robert Louis Stevenson Hotel, Abamama Island. After being diagnosed with tuberculosis, the Scottish author made his way to the South Pacific. Hence, many places throughout the region where he spent time bear his name. He eventually built a house in Apia, Western Samoa called Vailima. Stevenson is buried on the mountain overlooking his house (now used for official government functions) and Apia harbor. Photo by Meg Kinghorn
