Summer, 1994. This young bull elephant is agitated by my arrival on the scene. He had been casually eating grasses, leaves and twigs and wading and drinking in the Chobe River. (Notice the dark, wet areas on his legs and torso.) Lifting his trunk in an attempt to identify me by smell did not yield enough information, so he mock charged my patrol vehicle in a warning. I got his message and left him to his forage.
